The GEORGIA JEWEL, our own ultra-marathon run for the first time this year in North-West Georgia will be held in September this year. Karen and her team and sponsors have done an impressive job in luring runners from around the country to compete here. The hard work and attention to detail promises to make this into one of the premier ultra-marathons going forward.

Georgia Jewel Race offers challenge to runners

The Georgia Jewel challenge, consisting of a 100 mile, 50 mile, and 35 mile run, will be held on the Pinhoti Trail September 24th & 25th. Awards will be given for the top three finishers in each race. Registration is open to the public at www.georgiajewel.com. For the convenience of the participants, Georgia Jewel has established the Holiday Inn and Suites as the host hotel.  The hotel is offering a special rate for race weekend.

“These are high endurance runs,” explained Brett Huske, Executive Director of the Dalton CVB. “The Pinhoti is over 300 miles long and runs through Alabama and Georgia, the longest trail in either state. It is rigorous, challenging, and the perfect opportunity for someone to test their endurance in the Georgia mountains.”

Beginning at the Dalton Convention Center in downtown Dalton, the competitors will enter the Pinhoti Trail and cross through five scenic mountains overlooking Northwest Georgia. The trail mostly consists of a single track that is being maintained by NWGA SORBA, a non-profit organization focusing on mountain biking and trails in Georgia. In addition to several checkpoints along the route, aid stations will be located approximately every 8-9 miles.

For more information or to register for the race go to www.georgiajewel.com.
